Meet Samuel Vickrey, a Candidate For Your Wedding Photographer
Hi! My name is Samuel Vickrey and I am a wedding photographer and much more! Photography is my soul and passion and provides me the fruits from my labor. I am 26 years old and have had a camera on my hip for almost half of it.
How did I find my groove in the wedding industry?
Weddings are something that knocks on every successful photographer’s door. It knocked on my door when I met a wiser and older wedding photographer about 6 years ago in California! They took me under their wing and showed me the magic behind every shot taken at a wedding. Taking pictures of beautiful landscapes is my first love but I was able to find the same beauty in capturing special moments for couples, like a perfectly timed sunset photo to a first kiss.
Who am I?
This a question some push away and others answer as many times as they can! I sit somewhere in the middle, I enjoy talking about myself but I love to learn about others. Especially on their wedding day! but here it goes!….
I was a young artist who spent his high school in Louisiana (explains my mild accent when I get excited!) wondering who I was and where I wanted to go. Anywhere except the South sounded good to me so I took off! I love the South but for my young soul I needed some like-minded individuals to bounce off of. In my childhood I played soccer a lot and became a Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. I didn’t have many above the surface skills coming out of school but I could camp, paddle a boat, and make decent conversation so that’s what I did.
After high school, I quickly tried college and then moved to North Carolina, South Carolina, and California over 5 years working odd but rad outdoor company jobs. Yep, you are thinking correctly! I had a hand-me-down camera and I took pictures with that camera. The love for the craft came easy and before I knew it I was breaking the buddy system rule I learned in scouts just to scurry off for a few nights in the woods to take pictures that I deemed one of a kind.
My love for landscape shots, my adventurous attitude, and special relationships I made pointed me in the direction of starting my own photography services.
Am I the right photographer for your wedding?
You should always run through this question with your wedding photographer no matter who they are! Someone could be your sibling and still not see the vision you have for your big day. I like to take a step back from my own opinion at the start and allow my client to paint a picture in my head of their perfect day. There is a little bit of truth when someone says “Nothing is impossible.” Once I hear the pinnacle of my client’s wedding dreams I try to match it as best I can possible with the tools I have available.
I love adventure, being with my girlfriend, trying new things with my craft, open conversation, moody settings, big weddings, mountains, oceans, farm animals, gaming, making music, listening to music, dancing, snowboarding, kayaking, fishing, driving, camping, hiking, meditating, writing articles, and reading nonfiction! Any of these make good icebreakers for me!
